Biography

Dr. Subo Dey is an internal medicine physician who cares for adult patients at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Dey received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. He went on to complete his internship and residency training at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. Dr. Dey began his studies at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, earning a Bachelor of Science in respiratory care, and worked as a respiratory therapist in New York City before starting medical school. He is fluent in Bengali and is particularly interested in cardiology.

Dr. Dey grew up in Bangladesh and watched his father practice as a primary care physician. This was his initial introduction to medicine. Physicians have an incredible opportunity to extend not only their patients’ lifespans but also the quality of their lives through preventative medicine, which is one of the reasons he decided to pursue his medical degree. He believes it’s an absolute privilege to be able to take care of patients so they can live longer, healthier lives while spending more time with their friends and family. What he loves most about his job is gaining his patient’s trust, reassuring them when they are anxious, explaining complex medical processes in simple terms, and, most importantly, making them feel better. Dr. Dey believes communication is the key to patient care. He says, “Taking a holistic approach in patient care which includes physical, psychological and social aspects of their ailments and taking a multidisciplinary approach to tackle them can accomplish incredible things.” Throughout his education and training, he has learned that practicing medicine is complex; it includes knowing a vast amount of knowledge that is constantly changing, therefore having humility, and, most importantly, compassion is crucial.

As someone whose parents required frequent hospitalization in the past, Dr. Dey is no stranger to the anxiety and the stress an acute health scare can bring. When you or your family member is hospitalized, he will treat them as if they are his own and utilize all the resources of Albany Medical Center, which includes almost all subspecialty services, to ensure his patients receive the best care they get.

Dr. Dey is originally from Queens, New York. Outside work, he is an avid hiker and aims to travel at least once a year to an international destination (the last one being Barcelona, Spain!). He was also a standup comic during college and taught himself how to play the ukelele during the pandemic.
